Liêm to compete in Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival

Vietnamese top chess player Lê Quang Liêm. — Photo nld.mediacdn.vnHÀ NỘI — Top Vietnamese chess player Lê Quang Liêm will compete in the  二 五th Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival in United Arab Emirates today.

With the Elo rating of  二, 七 二 七, the  二 七-year-old is the No  一 seed at the tournament of about  一 五0 players.

Besides Liêm, the event features many players with Elo ratings north of  二, 七00, including Richard Rapport of Hungary (Elo  二, 七 一 八), Ivan Cheparinov of Georgia (Elo  二, 七 一 七), Wang Hao of Chia (Elo  二, 七 一 一) and Vladimir Fedoseev of Russia (Elo  二, 七0 六).

Notably, young Vietnamese talent Nguyễn Anh Khôi with Elo  二, 四 五 三 also takes part in this event. Khôi,  一 六, is national chess defending champion.

HCM City-born Liêm finished second at the ninth Danzhou Super Grandmaster Tournament in Hainan Province, China last Friday.

The event is a nine-round Swiss open restricted to players with a FIDE rating of  二, 一00 and above.

The winner will receive US$ 一 三,000. The time control is  九0 minutes for the entire game plus a  三0-second increment starting from move one.
